The Beginning

A photo gallery of the Harmon Oil history

1968

Cob started out as an Amoco Jobber in Brown City, MI. He bought a Fuel Oil truck, “peddling” fuel to area farmers. This is where the slogan “Go farmin with Harmon” came from.

1976

Cob Harmon bought the bulk plant in North Branch, MI.

1977

Cob, and his wife Inez bought an old house trailer. An area farmer named Bob Scrimger volunteered to tow the trailer with his tractor on to the new site in North Branch, MI.

1977

In March of 1977, Cob and Inez officially became Harmon Oil Company.

1980

The business grew large enough that in May of 1980 they hired Cindy to help with the office duties. City was hired right out of high school and still works for Harmon Oil today.

1980

They also added a carwash which was in business until the year 2000.

1986

Cob and Inie’s son Tom bought stock in Harmon Oil and became partners with his parents.

1987

Their business outgrew the old trailer and built the office they are in now.
